Porterbrook was established in 1994 as part of the realization of a shift to privatize the railway industry in Great Britain, and it engages in the purchase, financing, leasing and management of train fleets for the operation of passenger and freight train lines throughout the British Isle. Porterbrook’s activity is aimed to bridge the gap between the economic life of the train fleets, which lasts 35-40 years, and the duration of the concessions held by the railway network operators, by being a financing entity for the procurement of trains for the operators.
Porterbrook is one of the 3 leading players in the industry, with a market share of about 23%. It owns a train fleet that includes about 3,600 trains, which are leased with stable utilization rates (of more than 98%) over the years. It employs about 170 employees, half of them is in the engineering and the operation teams.
