Derech Hayam is one of the largest seawater desalination facilities in Israel, with a maximum annual generation capacity of 105 MCM. The facility is situated in the Palmachim Industrial Park nearby the coastline. The water desalinated in the facility is sold to the Government-owned corporation Mekorot (through the administrative division of the desalination), through a mechanism that includes a payment for both the availability and the actual consumption. This is the only facility in Israel established using the BOO method, and at the end of the concession period, the concessionaire will remain the owner of the facility.
